MapEditor
Use MapEditor to manipulate and postprocess the tracks generated by the NavSys system and generate street maps of the area you've been driving through.
A set of sample tracks can be downloaded from here
History of the project
2005-05-10 - Mapeditor 0.0.7 and 0.1.0
the latest working viewer version has been tagged in CVS
2005-05-10 - Mapeditor 0.0.7 and 0.1.0
MapEditor is seeing some life these days, with the branching between version 0.0.x, which was somewhat of a prototype, and version 0.1.x which will be the
first version to have editing functionnalities.
The editing-branch is far from ready though, as it's really a complete rewrite (the viewer-branch helped me learn tons of things in the process of its elaboration,
and now, I feel like I can start the editing functionnalities.)
The internal data structures are seeing a complete redesing, but the user interface will stay basically the same.
More news should show up here in a couple weeks
2004-12-28 - Mapeditor 0.0.6
This latest version is out. it includes a
GPX loader for
people that wanted that feature.
This is the last version with the monolithic mapeditor.c monstrosity, as
I'm starting new development to add layers and such with GObjects.
Stay tuned

2004-10-12 - Bluemarble files
people have been asking where to get the bluemarble files, well, you need to get the following files and decompress them. Note that they require about 2.6Gb when decompressed

With the first version of ngpsd out, the next version of MapEditor is out, the main functionnality added is being able to read the logfiles from ngpsd.
you can find version 0.0.5 here
2004-05-22
I found a link to bitmaps of the world (huge files) on the gpsdrive page, and integrated those in mapeditor
2004-05-21
Version 0.0.4 is out.
It features autoconf/automake magic, and the track loading functions have been refactored to allow for multiple file formats on input.

Carl Worth of cairo fame has finally uncovered where the super-slow-when-zoooming issues were. As a
consequence, I had to comment out calls to cairo_clip. Doing this uncovered thinkos in my track loading functions, which are now corrected.
I also changed the line join to round so that it's nicer.

It's finally out, mapeditor version 0.0.2 is now available for your downloading pleasure.
This version uses cairo, instead of libart_lgpl, and is much faster (draws
limited amount of things).
We were previously dawing on a pixbuf, which was then drawn on a pixmap, then
put on the screen by GTK. This was extremely inefficient and was streamlined.
Now, we have our own pixmap on which we draw directly, and the updates are handled by the application itself.
The red color was dropped in favor of much nicer black.
The application now draws everything in squares that are 0.01 degree wide by
0.01 degree tall. The coordinate where the cross cursor is located is spelled
at the middle of the screen.

After a long while being on hiatus, development of the MapEditor tool has picked speed again

2003-01-14 - Version 0.0.1 is out !
This version of MapEditor allows you to load tracks saved by NavSys 0.0.8.
Tracks are shown in a red color. The more intense the color, the closer to reality is the track ( you went along that path more often ). this allows to see the erroneous tracks. As usual, feel free to email me if you have any suggestions/complaints
This version can be downloaded here
